Dental hygienists and Dental chair assistants (ASO) highlighted at the 10th Anniversary of the International Congress scheduled at Forte Village from 12-14 June.
As per tradition of every Congress of the Italian Association of Dentists-AIO in Sardinia, in fact, there will be a session dedicated to them. Both will take place on Saturday 14 June from 9 to 13.
Hygienists Session – This session will feature leading experts presenting the latest advancements in minimally invasive techniques, instrumentation, and ozone therapy, all designed to enhance patient comfort and elevate the standard of care.
Speaker:: Andrea Butera – Dental hygienist, contract professor in the Dental and Dental Hygiene program at the University of Pavia, Italy PhD, Health Sciences, UCAM University of Murcia, University of Pavia, Director of Teaching Activities of the Degree Course in Dental Hygiene, University of Pavia and Research grant holder, University of Pavia will examine new strategies for managing periodontal and implant patients, covering:
- The gold standard in home and clinical care
- New instruments that significantly reduce bacterial load
- The advantages of the technique aimed at the natural reduction of the bacterial load over time to minimize long-term pharmacological exposure.
10:30 am – 12:00 am – Mini-Invasive Strategies for Treating Peri-Implantitis and Periodontitis
Speaker: Maria Gabriella Grusovin, Swedish-Italian Periodontist and Implant Specialist, former lecturer at the Universities of Manchester, UK and Vita e Salute San Raffaele, Milano, Italy and author of over 80 publications and book chapters.
She will explore:
- The latest minimally invasive treatment techniques
- The role of powders and other instruments
- Pre- and post-surgical care
- The role of the hygienist and the importance of synergistic work with the dentist.
Periodontitis and peri-implantitis are increasingly frequent pathologies in our practices. The aim is to remove the infection but also to allow adequate maintenance of the health conditions around the implant and the tooth and to obtain adequate aesthetics.

Degree in Dental Hygiene at the Luigi Vanvitelli School, University of Naples, Italy, Specialist in Minimally Invasive Procedures in Periodontology from the University of Siena, Italy, Master’s Degree in Periodontology and Oral Surgery at the Tech Institute of Mexico City, Mexico and Author of the book “Ozone Therapy Dentistry: Evidence-Based Clinical Protocols” will introduce the “One Shot” protocol for dental hygienists and dentists. He will:
- Explain advancements in dental ozone therapy
- Showcase how new chemical technologies are revolutionizing daily clinical practice
- Demonstrate applications of ozone therapy that were unthinkable just a few years ago

CHAIR ASSISTANT’S SESSION – In another room, curated by IDEA-Italian Dental Assistant , this session offers a unique opportunity for professional growth while equipping dental assistants with the latest skills and best practices to stay at the forefront of the profession.
Following her introduction, Toshiro Savoia, an expert in personal growth and coaching, will present “Strategic Management of the Agenda – From Organization to Production.” This insightful discussion will explore five key areas essential for optimizing dental office operations:
Next, Francesco Grande, Ph.D. in Bioengineering and Medical-Surgical Sciences from the Polytechnical School of Turin and an honorary member of IDEA, will lead a session on the proper management of implant components. Through a practical and detailed overview, he will break down the key categories of components, their functions, and best practices for organizing materials and instruments. By mastering these essential skills, dental assistants can provide a crucial support to dentists, ultimately enhancing patient care and improving overall treatment outcomes.
Rossella Abbondanza, National President of IDEA, and Maria Elena Tonini, Product Manager at Sirona, will then lead an important discussion on risk management in the dental practice, with a focus on biological and chemical exposure risks for personnel. They will highlight the most common hazards in dental settings and share effective strategies to safeguard both staff and patients, ensuring a safer and healthier work environment for all.
How to participate – Dentists can register up to two hygienists for a fee of 70 Euros. The same fee is for AIDI and SISIO members, 90 for non-members and up to four Assistants can be registered for a fee of 50 Euros. Alternatively, IDEA Members can register individually for 50 Euros plus VAT.
