Nowadays, adhesive materials are considered the top choice when it comes to operative and esthetic restorative dentistry. Thanks to their ability to integrate with the dental substrate, their excellent mechanical properties and the possibility of limiting the removal of sound dental tissue, they permit the dentist to attain optimal, long-lasting results using both direct and indirect restorative techniques.
However, with the apparent simplicity of use of these materials and the increasing shift towards digitalized procedures, the clinician should not detract from the importance of the knowledge and the use of standard protocols with respect to the healthy residual dental substrate and the surrounding periodontium. Different clinical situations will always require different clinical approaches in order to achieve the best possible, long term results.
