The lessons will unfold on Thursday June 10th beginning with a full day practical course and will continue into the next morning, Friday, June 11th, with a session that will host both Italian and international speakers.
The laser certification course that will be held on Thursday 10, “Dental Laser Standard Level Course: Diode Wavelength 445 – 470 – 810 – 940 – 980 nm”, is a prerequisite for the use of any laser. The course will provide basic training, including device-specific instruction and will be taught by Walid Altayeb (Algeria) who received his degree from Damascus, Syria and is current president of the Academy of Laser Dentistry (ALD) Gulf Chapter as well as founder of the British Academy of Implant and Restorative Dentistry’s Diploma in Advanced Laser Dentistry.
Friday, June 11th, during the Laser Session held from 9:00-13:30, Altayeb will discuss both surgical and non-surgical Periodontal Laser Therapy together with Nasim Chiniforush (University of Medical Sciences of Teheran, Iran and trained in Genoa , Italy in Laser Dentistry), Kinga Grzech-Leśniak (Director of the Laser Laboratory at the Department of Oral Surgery of the Faculty of Medicine in Wroclaw, Poland) and Norberto Berna (Coordinator of the Masters Program in Laser Dentistry at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome). The session will be moderated by Claudia Cotca (Washington Institute for Laser surgery) and Giovanni Olivi (Member of the Italian Society of Endodontics and the Italian Society of Pediatric Dentistry).
From 9:00-10:00 Chiniforush will compare the effectiveness of two photosensitizing methods in reducing the bacteria involved in periodontitis and peri-implantitis: a photodynamic (PDT) therapy and photobiomodulation (PBMT), based on the application of laser or LED light. Following, Altayeb will outline the determinants of excessive gingival exposure, including altered passive eruption (APE) as well as mucogingival surgery methods aimed at obtaining more harmonious and symmetrical smiles. Grzech-Leśniak (11.15 – 12.30) will focus on the innovative therapy of oral pathogens with laser light by offering an assessment of disputes and presenting innovative treatment protocols in combination with common antiseptics. Finally, Berna will highlight the progress achieved in 20 years of follow-up of patients treated with drill-free laser implantology starting from the first cases made with Er, Cr: YSGG lasers up to the last, made with the most performing Er: YAG laser equipped with scanner.
This year, the theme of the AIO International Congress is dedicated to the topic of Gender Shift, exploring the increasing contribution of the women in dentistry and balancing the presence of male and female speakers in each of the sessions.
