The theme of Gender Shift in Dentistry will permeate throughout the 11th International Congress of the Italian Dental Association. From Thursday June 9th to Saturday June 11th, 2022 in Chia on the island paradise in Sardinia in Italy, the stage will be set for top male and female speakers from around the world to take turns at the podium to explore one of the most important changes within the profession today, the gender shift, presenting not only the latest updates in dentistry but exploring if this new trend could be a new perspective or a future challenge for the profession.
In addition 33 Ada Cerp credits will be provided during different sessions. Here we present the sessions of Thursday 9 and Friday 10 of June.
It all begins on Thursday with a Pre-Congress Endodontic Session (10 Ada Cerp credits) with Kim Syngcuk, professor at the School of Dental Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, will discuss a classic clinical dilemma: save the tooth or extract it and place an implant.
Following will be a lecture by another world-renowned researcher, Elisabetta Cotti, specialty and MS in Endodontics from the University of Loma Linda- California.
She is Full Professor of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, and the Chairman of the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics at the School of Dentistry, University of Cagliari- Italy. She is currently the Director of the Post Graduate programme (Master) in Clinical Endodontics at the University of Cagliari.
Before the break, Jennifer Gibbs, head of the department of Endodontics at Harvard University School of Dentistry, will address the challenges in the diagnosis and treatment of persistent post-endodontic pain on which she will present new studies and case-based scenarios.
Following will be a lecture by another world-renowned researcher, Josette Camilleri, from the School of Dentistry at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, , she will discuss evidence based protocols in Endodontics.
Finally the Italian, Giovanni Olivi, member of the Italian Society of Endodontics, the Italian Society of Pediatric Dentistry and coordinator of the masters program in “Laser Dentistry” at the Catholic University of Rome, will talk about innovation in endodontics using the PIPS/SWEEPS technology.
Immediately following a theoretical and practical course will be held introduced by a prelude given by the two lecturers from the Italian Society of Endodontics, the treasurer Irene Karin Pontoriero from the University of Genoa and the vice president Filippo Cardinali. During the course much space will be dedicated to three-dimensional obturation and the single cone technique with the use of bioceramic cement to obtain high quality obturations. The aim of the course is to share tips and tricks to achieve a 3D canal obturation in a predicable and stress-free way, always bearing in mind important operational rationale for continuous and constant therapeutic success.
In another room the III ITALIAN DIGITAL DENTISTRY SOCIETY CONGRESS: THE DIGITAL APPROACH IN DAILY DENTAL PRACTICE.
In dentistry new digital tools such as intra and extra oral scanners, conebeam computed tomography (CBCT), software systems for computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD / CAM) are used in our practices.
Innovative manufacturing procedures, such as 3D printing and Laser Sintering are changing the way we treat our patients.
As a result, clinical procedures are moving towards completely digital workflows, which can be useful in all fields of dentistry, from conservative and prosthetic, to implant surgery and orthodontics.
These are the themes of the DDS Congress, chaired by Carlo Mangano and Giuseppe Luongo (10 Ada Cerp credits)
Friday morning instead we have 5 Sessions with 8 Ada Cerp Credits each.
AIC / Italian Association of Conservative Dentistry Session
Organized by the AIC / Italian Academy of Conservative Dentistry. Paolo Ferrari from the University of Parma, Italy will open the session speaking on the importance of composites in treatment plans. Then Allegra Comba, researcher at the University of Bologna, Italy will talk about the closure of diastemas followed by Gabriella Romano (University of Foggia, Italy and the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli, Italy) lecturing on perio-restorative treatment in the anterior sectors and Stefano Patroni professor of Prosthetic Biomechanics and Implanto-prosthetics in Parma,Italy who will take participants on a journey “From analog to digital”.
Perio – Prosthetic Session
It is perhaps the most “spectacular” session of the Italian Dental Association’s International Congress, “ hosting “big names” such as Ignazio Loi, pioneer of the Biologically Oriented Preparation Technique (BOPT), Mario Semenza, the “master of impressions”, Marco Ferrari, author many recent works and publications and Dirk Duddeck, protagonist in quality control in implantology in Germany. Yes, four men, but the congress is dedicated to gender shift in dentistry, paying homage to gender equality and this couldn’t be done without equal female representation. The young Martina Bonaudo, the Georgian Mariam Margvelashvili as well as other internationally renowned women will be present to highlight the plenary session.
But that’s not all! Zembic, teaching and research assistant at the Universities of Bern and Zurich, will explore implant restorations over time, illustrating clinical cases and recent data on peri-implantitis while Kianor Shah shows an alternative approach to All-on-X.
In Chia 3 the pediatric session will feature Maurizio Bossù, Associate Professor at the La Sapienza University in Rome, Italy who will lecture on Odontostomatology in the Evolutionary Age followed by Milena Cadenaro, Director of the Post Graduate Pediatric Dentistry Program at the University of Trieste, Italy who will speak on Hypomineralization of the Molars and Incisors. Luca Giannetti, Professor of Prosthetic Dentistry in the Post Graduate Course in Dental Prosthetics of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy will speak on Enamel Defects and their Resolution and Audrey Camilleri from Malta will treat Trauma and Regenerative Endodontics.
Photography and imaging Session
Prof. Louis Hardan, professor at the Saint Joseph University of Beirut, national president for Lebanon of the European Society of Cosmetic Dentistry (ESCD) and scientific director of Style Italiano, will start off the session speaking on DENTAL PHOTOGRAPHY USING THE CELL PHONE: THE NEW ERA OF DENTAL DOCUMENTATION AND COMMUNICATION.
Following, Milod Miladinov, author of “SHOOT LIKE A PRO”, the best-selling guide for dental photography published in 2015.
He’ll teach participants how to take professional photos with a very simplified process allowing one to reach a professional level obtaining excellent results.
After the break Dr. Claudia Cotca (Washington Institute Dentistry & Toxicology) will show us the technological advantages of microscopic, static and dynamic photography in a clinical setting and the comparative magnification options in the technology of combining still and dynamic photos.
Closing the session will be Dr. Mirela Feraru, author of the bestselling book “Dental Visualization”, published by Quintessence Publishing in 2018, she’ll lecture on the importance of correct dental documentation using a simplified and practical approach to use for daily documentation.
In another room we will present the Laser Therapy in its various applications
Walid Altayeb will discuss both surgical and non-surgical Periodontal Laser Therapy together with Nasim Chiniforush (University of Medical Sciences of Teheran, Iran and trained in Genoa , Italy in Laser Dentistry), Aleksandra Krizaj Dumic (awarded as Expert Clinical Lecturer by the Laser and Health Academy) and Norberto Berna (Coordinator of the Masters Program in Laser Dentistry at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome). The session will be moderated by Claudia Cotca (Washington Institute for Laser surgery) and Giovanni Olivi (Member of the Italian Society of Endodontics and the Italian Society of Pediatric Dentistry).
